Robert and Yvonne Koob Fund for Student Community Engagement

The Leader

Robert D. Koob, UNI's eighth president, has been a leader in the Cedar Valley community as well as at the university. He has served numerous local organizations. He continually encourages Cedar Valley organizations and individuals to listen to one another and work together for the betterment of their community.

One of Bob's and Yvonne's most significant accomplishments has been to foster collaboration between UNI and organizations in the in the Cedar Valley. He has emphasized that the university not only has a responsibility to serve its home community, but also that the community can provide students and faculty rich resources for learning.

The Opportunity

To promote and perpetuate Bob's vision for community-university partnerships, we are seeking funds that will permanently support community engagement experiences.

The Challenge

To support the Koob Fund, the R.J. McElroy Trust offered a challenge grant that was matched by contributions from individuals and businesses. The Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust pledged support to start the program. Thanks to all who helped meet the challenge. Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated.

The Fund Provides:

  • Awards for interns in positions of service in Iowa
  • Financial support ranging from $1,000 - $3,000
  • Undergraduate and graduate students in any academic discipline at UNI
