Program
Support
Gifts in this category enable UNI to make excellent programs even better,
giving students a competitive edge in the job market. They may be used
for:
- Student and faculty research support,
- Student and faculty conferences,
- Guest artists and lecturers, and
- Many other enhancements essential to program distinction.
The following UNI programs enrich the collegiate experience:
- R. Gordon Hoxie Endowed Professorship features experts
on subjects related to political science and history.
- The Firstar Lecture has brought the University of Northern
Iowa noted speakers on banking and banking-related issues.
A
Dean's Fund for Excellence has been established for each of UNI's five
undergraduate colleges. These funds enable college deans to pursue special
opportunities for their students, explore innovative programs, and encourage
outstanding faculty.
Endowed faculty positions--chairs and professorships--are
a special and very important type of program support. Nationwide, the
competition for outstanding faculty is keen. Support in this area is the
mark of a mature and successful institution. Endowed chairs and professorships
guarantee the extra measure of support that will enable UNI to recruit
and retain the faculty our students deserve.
Some examples of current program support include:
- The College of Business Administration's T. Wayne Davis
Chair in Entrepreneurship
- The David W. Wilson Chair for Business Ethics, shared
by the colleges of Business Administration and Humanities and Fine Arts
- Gift of U4ia Software by Computer Designs Inc., of Grand
Rapids, MI, for UNI's Design, Family and Consumer Sciences Department.
