Memorial Garden History

Nearly a decade ago, the UNI Memorial Garden was created when members of the Student Alumni Ambassadors had the vision to enhance the beauty of the UNI campus. Since that time, the UNI Foundation has adopted the project and made the vision a reality.

The UNI Memorial Garden is located east of the Maucker Union and the Center for Multicultural Education. The garden features commemorative benches, arbors, granite pavers, a personalized brick walkway, rose and rock gardens, grassy seating area and functional events stage.

A reflecting pool serves as the centerpiece of the garden. The pool was the Senior Class gift from the Class of 1993 to commemorate Prexy's Pond. For nearly 50 years, Prexy's Pond was the gathering place for tradition and collegiate acitivities such as canoeing, ice skating and picnicking. The Curris Business Building has since replaced this UNI landmark, but the traditions and memories are being preserved through the Memorial Garden. The thoughtful gift of the Class of 1993 now provides a new venue for friends to gather in an idyllic setting.
